GPs treat everyone and their entire being – this is the defining and distinctive feature of general practice.

Generalism, as a medical speciality, refers to the physical, psychological, environmental, social and cultural determinants and manifestations of health and wellbeing.

General Practice medicine considers all aspects of your Health & Wellbeing across your lifespan.

GPs undergo significant training in medicine, including the completion of a six-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, followed by two years of post-graduate hospital training and three years of supervised general practice training. GPs must pass examinations of an accredited general practice training program, before being able to use the Specialist General Practitioner title. (FRACGP or FACRRM)

GPs are medical specialists, as recognised under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009.
